Antique Early 19th Century English Georgian Mahogany Chest of Drawers with Slide

Height: 31 inches   Width: 35 1/4 inches   Depth: 20 1/4 inches

The Georgian period spanned the reigns of English Kings George I – George IV in England, from 1714 until 1830.  Georgian furniture is known for elegance, simplicity, fine quality, balance and lack of ornamentation, although fine inlays were common.  Mahogany, a durable tropical hardwood, with straight grain and rich color, was widely available during the Georgian period.  Georgian furniture incorporated influences from Queen Anne, Chippendale, Hepplewhite and Sheraton designs.   The slide on this chest could be used for writing purposes.
