Allergorial scence of a shepherd and his flock, a demoiselle and suitor
Aubusson carpets and tapestries began to obtain fame in the 16th century. The royals of the time furnished the floors and walls of their palaces and residence with these visually impressive textiles. At the Aubusson factory, an image was first painted on to paper, then cut and placed like the pieces of a puzzle, and eventually the created design was woven to perfect completion. This is a very demanding art and few have opted to copy Aubusson's craft. Many of the Aubusson pieces available today feature Italian Renaissance florals and architectural forms.
