The word portemanteau has several meanings, but in the context of antique furniture, refers to a hall tree or coat rack.

 

Creil-Montereau faience was a pioneer in introducing and perfecting transfer printing in France. This technique allowed for mass production of decorated pottery with detailed designs.  It reached its peak during the 19th century.
