The Royal Vienna porcelain factory opened in 1718 and continued in operation until 1864.  It was known for its production of beautiful painted pieces, harkening back to eleents of the Renaissance as well as Greek Classicism.  

 

This portrait plate features Queen Louise of Prussia (1776-1810).. She was wife of King Frederick William III and known for being a great beauty and popular with her subjects, as she met with Napoleon I after a disastrous war loss with the French to ask for favorable terms.  In her short life, she also bore 9 children to the king.
