The Georgian period spanned the reigns of English Kings George I – George IV in England, from 1714 until 1830.  Georgian furniture is known for elegance, simplicity, fine quality, balance and lack of ornamentation, although fine inlays were common.  Mahogany, a durable tropical hardwood, with straight grain and rich color, was widely available during the Georgian period, and figures prominently in its antique furniture designs.  It reflects a period of prosperity and global trade, incorporating influences from various styles like Queen Anne, Chippendale, Hepplewhite, and Sheraton.

A sideboard was a side or serving table, also known as a buffet. It would sit along the wall of a dining room adjacent to the dining table.  Sideboards could be used for serving food, for displaying serving dishes and for storage. Sideboards usually had a set of cabinets or one of more drawers. This is a beautiful demi-lune ("half-moon") piece that adds a softer line to a sideboard.
