Antique English Victorian Brass and Leather Club Fire Fender, Circa 1890

Height: 24 1/4 inches  Width: 59 3/4 inches  Depth: 20 inches

This Victorian fire fender features padded, upholstered leather seats all the way around, and was commonly referred to as a club fender.  Club fenders were frequently used in libraries or sitting rooms to provide cozy, extra seating right next to the heat of the fire. Victorian fire fenders were part of a home's style, and could range from very simple to quite elaborate design.  The primary purpose of a fire fender was to keep logs from rolling onto the floor and pets and children safe from the flames.
