Antique French 18th Century Fruitwood "Buffet a Deux Corps", Circa 1780-1800
Height: 92 1/2 inches Width: 58 inches Depth: 22 1/2 inches
A "buffet à deux corps" is the name given to an antique two-tiered French cabinet, typically used for storage. The name translates to "buffet with two bodies".
Fruitwood comes from fruit-bearing trees such as apple, cherry and pair. It was in abundant supply and far less expensive for creating provincial furniture than the fine woods used in the cities. Fruitwood is a moderately hard wood, with a fine grain and unique warm coloring.
