The Louis XIII style (1589-1661) featured thick, turned wood and moldings, and joined stretchers.  Dark woods such as oak and walnut ebony were used.  Forms were often geometric.  The style was transitional, from the late Renaissance to the onset of French classical.  Elements of the Louis XIII style are clearly seen in this nice bench.
