Edouard Pail (1815-1916) was a French landscape and animal painter, born in Corbigny, in a beautiful part of the Burgundy countryside.  His initial studies were with a local painter and engraver, a friend of Camille Corot. Later he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Nevers.  His first exhibition at the Salon was in 1870 with two paintings.

During the 1880s, he traveled extensively, but returned to France, taking up permanent residence in Paris.  He continued to visit his bithplace of Corbigny every summer.   Pail's canvases were primarily landscapes of the areas near where he grew up. He was a great enthusiast of plein aire painting.

His exhibits at the Salon were an annual event. He became a member in 1888 and won a medal in 1893.

He died in Paris in 1916.
