Marthe Élisabeth Barbaud-Koch

(1862-1928)

Marthe Élisabeth Barbaud-Koch was born in Lyons in 1862. She studied painting with Sophie Olivier, Elie Laurent (portrait artist), as well as with William-Adolphe Bouguereau and the fabric designer Loubet.  It was chiefly from Jules Ferdinand Médard (1855-1925) that she learned the techniques of floral painting.

She painted in Lyons, as well as in Paris, where she was a frequent exhibitor at the Salon from 1887 onward. Eventually she settled in Toulon, where she died in 1928.
