The individual known as "Tahan du Roi" ( Tahan to the King) was Jean-Pierre-Alexandre Tahan, a highly acclaimed French ébéniste (cabinetmaker) during the 19th century. He was known for crafting exquisite, small, precious pieces of furniture, as well as caskets, perfume boxes, jewelry boxes, and luxury canes.
Tahanwas the official cabinetmaker and a favorite supplier to Emperor Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie, creating furniture for their imperial palaces. Tahan participated in numerous Universal Exhibitions, receiving a silver medal in 1849, a silver medal in London in 1852, and a gold medal in Paris in 1867.
