Circa 1880

Height: 87 inches   Width: 41 1/2 inches   Depth: 19 1/2 inches

The French Regency style emerged during the regency of Philippe d'Orléans, who ruled France as regent for Louis XV (1715-1723). The style influenced the design of furniture, interiors, and architecture well into the 19th century. Gilt bronze or polished brass was used for furniture mounts and decoration.  This armoire is a fine example of the Regency style.

Brass mounts were popluar because they enhanced the wood color, were relatively soft and easy to work, and could be rapidly reprodcued by casting.
