Henry Baron was an American painter, author, illustrator and translator.  Before his formal training as an artist, he served as a soldier and war artist during the American Civil War,and was badly wounded during the Battle of Bull Run. After the war, he studied in France, and became a member of the Pont-Aven School, painting genre subjects of French country life, many of which sold nicely back in the USA.

Bacon exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1868 to 1896.

Toward the end of his life, he spent winter months in Egypt, where he developed an interest in Orientalist painting.
