Over his long career, American architect David Adler (1882-1949) deisgned over 45 homes, 27 in the Chicago area. He often collaborated on interior furnishings with his sister, Frances Adler Elkins, one of the most prominent 20th century interior designers.

 

Tole is painted, enameled or lacquered tinplate. Tinplate is a thin sheet of steel coated with tin to keep the steel from rusting.  The tin coating also provides a metallic luster.  Tole pieces often bear decorative designs.
