Pair Antique English Egyptian Revival Patinated Bronze Andirons, Circa 1880

Height: 20 inches   Width: 12 inches   Depth: 12 inches

Egyptian Revival uses motifs and imagery inspired by ancient Egypt. It gained popularity after Napoleon's invasion of Egypt in 1798 and the subsequent public awareness of Egyptian monuments.

Andirons were used in fireplaces to support logs as they burn.  They typically come in pairs.  Andirons are elevated, allowing for better air circulation under the firewood. This resulted in more efficient burning and less smoke.

Bronze may be patinated in two manners – through firing at a foundry or via the application of colors, varnishes and waxes outside of the oven.
