Pair Antique French Du Barry Urns with Cloisonné Bases, Circa 1865-1875

Height: 10 inches   Diameter: 3 1/4 inches

Du Barry Rose is named after a mistress of King Louis XV of France. It is a soft pink ceramic overglaze developed in France in the 18th century.

Cloisonné is an ancient decorative technique used to create intricate designs on metal objects using colorful glass enamels and thin metal wires. The wires, or "cloisons" (French for partitions), are soldered to the metal base and then filled with enamel paste, creating separate compartments for each color. The piece is then fired to melt the enamel and create a glossy, glass-like surface.
