Pair Antique French Wrought Iron and Tole 3 Light Wall Sconces, Circa 1890s

Height: 18 3/4 inches   Width: 15 inches   Depth: 10 inches

Wrought iron was used in the creation of antique fixtures because of its strength but also because it was relatively easy and soft for a blacksmith to work with as they hammered and shaped the metal.

Tole is painted, enameled or lacquered tinplate. Tinplate is a thin sheet of steel coated with tin to keep the steel from rusting.  The tin coating also provides a metallic luster.  Tole pieces often bear decorative designs.
